Inspire Ethiopia

"Landlocked, 75 million inhabitants, one of the World least developed countries and so under visited in relation to what there is to see. Desert, mountains, indigenous minorities, volcanoes, national parks............Ethiopia has an unfortunate image elsewhere in the World- one of poverty, famine and despair. This is not the case - it is a country of great contrasts and one which leaves the traveller with little choice, but to come back. I love it!"

Community Volunteer Projects

In the words of John Dewey

'Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself.'

As a community volunteer in Ethiopia you will play a vital role in helping children build for a better future through education. You must be flexible, enthusiastic and ready for a life changing challenge. Life in Ethiopia can be unpredictable, you should be creative and adaptable. Depending on the time of year and the needs of the local schools you may be involved in a range of challenges and highly commendable and worthwhile community tasks.

Addis ABABA

Primary schools: Teaching

- In Addis Ababa and surrounding rural areas, these schools are poorly resourced and understaffed. Your knowledge and enthusiasm will go a long way. It is imperative that you use your own initiative and engage in any way you can to improve the lives of the children at these schools.

Secondary Schools: Teaching

- English is taught and viewed by most students as a very important language to learn. As a native English speaker you will be able to provide much needed support with conversational English. Students will be aged 14+ and will be looking for you to help improve their overall English skills. In this vital role, you could be helping young Ethiopians progress and become future players in the countries development process.
- A number of secondary schools are located in the 'Kotebe' suburb of Addis Ababa. This area has the feeling of rural Ethiopia but remains close to the comforts of the capital.

Sport Coaching

- Ethiopians have endless enthusiasm for football! If you are interested in training and coaching football this can be a very rewarding project. It can be carried out in addition to teaching or carried out as a separate project. Enquire for more details.

Orphanage Volunteer: Addis Ababa

- A number of Orphanages in Ethiopia are very basic and underfunded. These are extremely challenging places to work and can be emotionally challenging. Nevertheless, the children are in great need and this is a highly rewarding project. We adopt a very flexible approach at 'Inspire Ethiopia'; we want you to share our love for Ethiopia. Therefore we are open to suggestions and willing to set up a project that suits your needs. Whether you are looking for a project for a dissertation, research or a volunteering break we will arrange a suitable programme. If the above projects don't suit your needs, email us and we will endeavour to set up a project in your field of interest.
